Once the most widely grown grape variety in the Vallée du Grésivaudan of Isère, Verdesse dwindled to 2 hectares and was nearly lost until growers began replanting it a decade ago. Taking its name from its dark green berries and leaves, Verdesse produces powerful wines with bright acidity and exotic aromas. We’d argue that Jérémy Bricka makes a classic Verdesse and one of the best examples of this nearly extinct variety if it wasn’t for the fact that we’ve never had anyone’s Verdesse except his. Still, there’s something beguiling about this wine’s redolent orange peel aromas, friendly ripe apple flavors, and saline minerality that makes us wonder how Verdesse could get better than this?
