Overview

Écharderie is a southwestern-facing lieu-dit where the cellars of the seigneurs de la Haute Guerche were once located. Domaine Belargus farms 0.35-hectares of Chenin Blanc planted on a mix of schist, alterite, and puddingstone soils. Écharderie is the epitome of what Coteaux du Layon Chaume 1er Cru should be. Écharderie is a wine of density verging on opulence but also with remarkable poise with enlivening acidity and lash of minerality.

Employee Review

"This is just a taste of the mountain of press that this brand new Anjou domaine has received in the last 12 months. Aside from receiving the highest scores EVER for dry wines from the Loire in the Wine Advocate, scores ranging from 96 to 100 points for the single parcel wines, and struggling to keep up with the request for allocations, this domaine has been quietly, and without fanfare, producing some of the most singular, interesting, and stunning wines I’ve ever tasted."
