Press Review

Consistently among my favorite cuvées from this standout producer, led by striking notes of black cherries and dried spices and adding slightly herbal and licorice notes, it's full-bodied, concentrated and velvety, with a long, elegant finish.

- Joe Czerwinski, 2020 vintage

Overview

A new cuvée first made in 2015, Ascensio, is based on a single vineyard of 50-80-year-old Grenache planted on red clay and limestone soils at an elevation of 330 meters above sea level. This plot of vines has always stood out to Fred and Alex and is bottled separately in only exceptional vintages. Because this Grenache is so pure and expressive, it is fermented and aged entirely in concrete with only a small addition of Syrah (about 5%).
