Pineau d’Aunis can be found throughout the Loire Valley where it is commonly used to make rosé. Sadly many of these rosés are fairly sweet and beverage-like which hides the naturally spicy, peppery and cherry-flavored charms of this variety. Luckily for us, Jean-François Mérieau makes a deliciously dry and savory rosé of Pineau d’Aunis from vines ranging in age from 40 to 100 years old! If it wasn’t so fun to drink we’d be tempted to call it serious wine.
