The “Unnamed Series” began in 2018 as a co-ferment of Syrah with Viognier and Marsanne, but when no name quite captured its spirit, Matt Reynvaan spiritedly declared, “That’s it—this one stays unnamed.” That spontaneous decision stuck, and the wine has been a fixture ever since. The 2021 vintage is 100% Syrah, sourced from both of Reynvaan’s iconic Walla Walla Valley vineyards—“Foothills in the Sun” and “In the Rocks.” These sites bring together a dramatic interplay of volcanic, alluvial, and silty loam soils, expressed beautifully in the wine’s profile. The nose is captivating, with smoked meats, salty pancetta, and green olive tapenade wrapping around a vibrant core of blue and red fruits. The palate leans savory and structured, reflecting the high-elevation fruit of “Foothills in the Sun,” while the “In the Rocks” Syrah contributes a lifted, elegant counterbalance. Aged for 18 months in neutral French oak barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
