The opportunity to revive La Côte de Chauffour is what originally brought Alexandre and Blandine to Vézelay in 2016. Once a highly regarded site with a southeastern exposure facing the village of Vézelay, Alexandre and Blandine began replanting it with Chardonnay in 2016 and their first small release was made in 2023. Since this site hasn’t been under vine for some time, its wines are currently classified as Bourgogne Blanc. With time, Alexandre expects this vineyard to be recognized as a Vézelay Villages site if not an eventual 1er cru. Even these young vines show a depth of stone fruit flavors enlivened with a lingering mineral freshness. Once this site is recognized, Alexandre intends to only bottle a small portion as La Côte de Chauffour and use the remainder in the Vézelay bottling.
