Overview

The black schist and clay soils of Maury are ideal for Grenache and while many people associate this village with its red and fortified wines, it can also produce rich but vibrant white wines based on Grenache Blanc. Traditionally white varieties in the region were planted on what was seen as less-favorable sites – those that were the slowest to ripen and the most exposed to the daily winds that race down the Agly valley from the interior. Added to the Grenache Blanc from Maury is around 20% Roussanne from vineyards to the east of Maury and closer to the Mediterranean.
