Lirac is one of the few crus in the Rhône Valley that produces red, whites and rosé wines. Its terroir is also unique in that it is roughly analogous to its esteemed neighbor, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in geologic age, soil composition, elevation and grape varieties. Just a short trip over the Rhône from Châteauneuf, it should be no surprise that growers there frequently own vineyards west of the river. Plateau des Chênes is the property that Laurent Brechet owns in Lirac where he makes a range of reds as well as a stunning example of Lirac Blanc. A blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Clairette, it is an expressively floral and complex wine proving that Lirac is far from the little sister of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
