Rob Dougan doesn’t believe in “noble” and “ignoble” varieties so he treats his Carignan and Cinsault with as much care as his Syrah, Mourvedre or Grenache. Les Obriers, or “the workers” is what he calls his bluejeans wine – an everyday wine of immediate pleasure. It is named in honor of the countless stonecutters and masons who labored in the Terrasses du Larzac, for centuries in anonymity, building so many fine houses, churches and mansions. The Carignan and Cinsault in the blend is planted in the same terroir as his other varieties, is carefully tended and harvested by hand, destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in foudre and neutral French oak demi-muids.
