Overview

While Bierzo is largely synonymous with Mencia, many of the oldest vineyards in the region are co-panted with other varieties of red and white grapes and there are even some small plots entirely planted to white varieties such as Palomino Fino, Doña Blanca, Godello, and Malvasia. Mario Rovira discovered just such a vineyard – an tiny parcel of 0.4 ha named Valdesacia – at an elevation of 750m on sandy soils over a bedrock of quartz and schist. About 3/4 of the vines are Palomino Fino with the remainder Doña Blanca. These grapes are used in “K” – a white wine of persistent minerality and freshness.
