It is a winemaking tradition in Andalusia to mark with a “NO” several casks of a particular quality, keeping them apart from the seasonal sacas that are at the core of the solera system. As a consequence, such wines become more and more concentrated and old. This “Más allá del NO”, in particular, is a single butt of very old Oloroso among the dozens of casks looked after Eduardo Ojeda in Jerez. It is a double NO, or cask beyond the NO, meaning that it contains an even older wine than the respective botas NO of the mythical very old soleras of the House.
La Bota de Oloroso 94 “Más allá del NO” is a wine on the edge, of extreme concentration in every way, almost an essence, as it should be expected given its extraordinarily old age. Spectacular. It has never been bottled, except from time to time some loose bottle for gifts and special editions, but this has ceased to be done in any event since 1999.
We are certain that this wine will be incorporated into the memorable series of monumental bottles composed of editions 5 “NPI”, 49 “Bota AR”, 63 “Bota NO”, etc., colossal wines we have been incredibly lucky to have the chance to bottle and enjoy in their unique complexity. As on those other occasions, everyone who now miss the opportunity to get some of these bottles will probably regret it in the future.
