Overview

Païen, Heida, Savagnin, Traminer and Gwurztraminer are names same grape variety with only minor clonal differenced. Depending on where it is grown and how it is vinified, their is always a wild floral and herbal dimension to this variety. In the Valais and in the hands of Claudy Clavien it expresses itself in a more linear and floral manner planted on the majestic, limestone-rich, hillsides around the tiny village of Miège. Long a minor but important variety in the Valais, planting have expanded recently including Claudy’s two parcels which total 0.35 hectares of his 6 hectares of vines.
