Albillo Criollo should not be confused with the various Albillos found in central Spain. In fact Albillo comes from Alba, or white. So the only thing that can be said for certain about this grape is that it is white, grown on its own rootstock in sandy volcanic soils at an elevation of 1200 meters above sea level near the northern tip of La Palma. The age of these vines ranges between 30–50 years old. Despite its uncertain origins, Albillo Criollo is perfectly adapted to the volcanic soils of La Palma producing a vertically mineral and profound wine.
